Micrathene

Micrathene is a genus of tiny owls containing the Elf Owl (Micrathene whitneyi), the world's lightest owl at ~40g and 12-14cm tall. Found in the southwestern USA and Mexico, it nests in cacti and tree cavities. Though primarily living today, fossil species extend the genus into the Pleistocene of North America.

Micrathene was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
