Aletornis gracilis is an extinct gruiform bird from the Eocene (~50 Ma) of Wyoming, USA. A slender, long-legged wading bird from the Green River Formation, it was adapted to the lakeside and marshland environments of the ancient Eocene lake system. Its gracile build suggests an active wader that hunted invertebrates and small vertebrates in shallow water.
Diet & Feeding
Aletornis gracilis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
