Anchisaurus

†Anchisaurus was a basal sauropodomorph dinosaur of the Early Jurassic, reaching approximately 2–4m in length. Discovered in Connecticut and Massachusetts, United States, it was among the first dinosaurs described in North America (1885). A slender, lightly built herbivore capable of bipedal locomotion, it inhabited floodplain environments of the Hartford Basin.

Anchisaurus lived during the Jurassic Early period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 201.4 to 174.7 million years ago.

After the Triassic-Jurassic extinction, dinosaurs rapidly diversified and became the dominant land vertebrates. Early sauropods and theropods began to evolve larger body sizes.
