Asylosaurus yalensis

Asylosaurus yalensis

† Asylosaurus yalensis was a Late Triassic dinosauriform or early dinosaur whose holotype material is housed at Yale University. Known from fragmentary limb bones, it inhabited a Rhaetian-age environment and is regarded as a close relative of early sauropodomorph dinosaurs, contributing to understanding of the Triassic dinosaur radiation.

Time Period

Triassic Late Mesozoic Era

Asylosaurus yalensis lived during the Triassic Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 237.0 to 201.4 million years ago.

The first true dinosaurs appeared during the late Triassic, including early theropods like Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus. Dinosaurs were still small and not yet dominant. The period ended with the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event.
