† Buteo conterminus is an extinct Pleistocene hawk of the genus Buteo, known from fossil material recovered in the United States. Buteo hawks are broad-winged soaring raptors that hunt small mammals, birds, and reptiles. This extinct species inhabited open and semi-open habitats of North America during the Pleistocene epoch, contributing to an assemblage of now-extinct raptors that shared the landscape with Pleistocene megafauna.
Diet & Feeding
Buteo conterminus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
