Callonetta

Callonetta

Callonetta is a monotypic duck genus containing the ringed teal (Callonetta leucophrys), a small herbivorous waterfowl of South American tropical forest streams. Fossil material from Argentina documents the genus through the Quaternary. The ringed teal inhabits flooded forests and marsh edges, feeding on aquatic plants, seeds, and invertebrates. Its striking sexual dimorphism — males have richly patterned plumage — makes it popular in aviculture. It is the sole surviving representative of its lineage within Anatidae.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivore

Callonetta was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
