Coralloidoolithus

Coralloidoolithus

An ootaxon (fossil egg type) from the Late Cretaceous of South Korea, Coralloidoolithus is characterised by coral-like surficial ornamentation on the eggshell. These eggs likely belonged to theropod dinosaurs or early birds and contribute to understanding reproductive diversity and nesting strategies of Cretaceous dinosaurs in East Asian ecosystems of the latest Mesozoic.

Time Period

Cretaceous Late Mesozoic Era

Coralloidoolithus lived during the Cretaceous Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 100.5 to 66.0 million years ago.

The final age of dinosaurs, featuring iconic species like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Velociraptor. Dinosaurs reached their peak diversity before the catastrophic asteroid impact at the Chicxulub crater ended the Mesozoic Era.
