Elaltitan lilloi

Elaltitan lilloi

† Elaltitan lilloi is a titanosaurian sauropod from the Late Cretaceous Bajo Barreal Formation of Chubut Province, Argentina. Estimated at 25 m in length and potentially 47 tonnes, it was one of the largest animals to have lived in South America. A herbivore browsing on angiosperms and conifers across Patagonian floodplains, it co-existed with giant titanosaurs like Argentinosaurus. Named for the Fundación Miguel Lillo, its discovery adds to the remarkable gigantism documented in South American titanosaurs.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivore

Elaltitan lilloi was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.

Elaltitan lilloi lived during the Cretaceous Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 100.5 to 66.0 million years ago.

The final age of dinosaurs, featuring iconic species like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Velociraptor. Dinosaurs reached their peak diversity before the catastrophic asteroid impact at the Chicxulub crater ended the Mesozoic Era.
