Asiahesperornis

Asiahesperornis

†Asiahesperornis was a hesperornithiform diving bird of the Late Cretaceous, discovered in Russia. A flightless aquatic carnivore propelled by powerful hindlimbs, it pursued fish in inland seas or coastal waters of Cretaceous Asia. An Asian relative of the North American Hesperornis, its discovery demonstrates that foot-propelled diving birds inhabited Cretaceous seas across both North America and Asia.
