† Baptornis was a Late Cretaceous hesperornithiform bird from the Niobrara Formation of Canada and the United States. This large flightless diving bird, approximately 1 m long, used its powerful lobed or webbed feet to pursue fish in the shallow Western Interior Seaway. It possessed small vestigial wings and sharp teeth for grasping slippery prey.
