A Late Cretaceous bird from North America, Cimolopteryx rara ('rare slender wing') is known from isolated tarsometatarsal elements from the Lance Formation of Wyoming. As a cimolopterygid bird, it was part of the diverse avian assemblage that survived alongside Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus in the final Cretaceous ecosystems of Laramidia.
